| Tour of Kampong Ayer (Water Village) |
|
Old Brunei is characterised by the traditional group
of water villages, known as Kampong Ayer, with their wealth of
charming old houses, built in the traditional way, on stilts on
the water.
Early European visitors to Brunei Darussalam described Kampong
Ayer, "Water Village" as "The Venice of the East". Today visitors
continue to be fascinated by these traditional and historic
houses on stilts which span the greater part of the Brunei River.
No visit to Brunei Darussalam would be complete without a trip
to this unique and intriguing place. |
|
Built to commemorate the 1992 Silver Jubilee of the
Sultan’s succession to the throne, the Royal Regalia Building
contains all the regalia connected to the Royal Family and the
Brunei Darussalam Constitution.
Home to a collection of Royal Regalia, including the Royal
Chariot, and gold and silver ceremonial armoury, the jewel encrusted
crowns used during the coronation and a replica of the throne
which His Majesty uses for state occasions. Also included in
this exhibition is a fully documented history of the Constitution
of Negara Brunei Darussalam. |
|
Spectacularly situated on the top of a hill overlooking
the Brunei River at Jalan Kota Batu, the Brunei Museum tells
the story of Brunei, past and present. Opened in 1972 by Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during an official visit, the museum
is built on three levels, housing six permanent exhibition galleries,
and a host of related archival material.
The galleries fully illustrate Brunei historical and contemporary
life and cover history, artifacts, and antiques. In addition,
a one-off gallery is devoted to displays on the country’s oil
and gas industry. One of the most impressive exhibits is a large
photograph of the whole of Brunei taken by satellite from over
900 kilometres above the sea.
