APEC Study Centers Consortium Meeting, Valparaiso, Chile, 2004

LAEBA Sponsored PECC/ASC Seminarin Valparaiso, Chile 28 May 2004

Co-organized by
PECC Trade Forum
LAEBA (Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific Economics and Business Association)
Chilean APEC Study Center-Chile Pacific Foundation

The PECC Trade Forum joint sessions at the APEC Study Centre consortium meeting in Chile on 26-29 May, sponsored by LAEBA, a joint IDB-ADBI initiative to promote comparative research between Latin America and Asia Pacific, focused on "the next steps" in the Trade Forum’s work on RTAs, focusing on issues such as sequencing and possible harmonization in the transition from multiple RTAs to achievement of APEC’s objectives for the entire Asia-Pacific region. Taking advantage of the opportunity to hold a meeting in Latin America, panels gave special emphasis to possible lessons to be drawn from recent RTA experiences in the Americas especially with the FTAA.

Reflecting the new emphasis on "back to basics" in the WTO, the TF also featured sessions on services and agriculture.
