The Fifteenth
PECC General Meeting closed with a call for a renewed commitment
to the Asia Pacific approach to regional integration. After
a marathon 3-days of presentations from and discussions between
thought-leaders, government officials and businessmen, the
Council outlined seven key recommendations for the future
of integration and regional cooperation in the Asia Pacific.

The
meeting was attended by five hundred delegates from the region's
business, government and research communities who discussed
issues vital to stability and economic growth in the Asia
Pacific including: the Doha Development Agenda; financial
reform; public-private sector partnerships; and energy security.
The meeting closed with special addresses
from Thai Prime Minister, Thaksin
Shinawatra, Philippine
President Gloria Arroyo, and Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister
Abdullah Badawi.
A series of in-depth workshops took
place before the plenary session. The issues addressed during
the workshops include the
development of regional bond markets, sustainable
urban services, to services
liberalisation.
